There are two free guitar classes offered this fall at the Youngsville Library:

 

1.                   (Absolute) Beginning Acoustic, Bluegrass & Folk Guitar

2.                   Intermediate Acoustic, Bluegrass & Folk Guitar

 

 

Registration: Sign up in person at the Youngsville Library front desk

       The maximum number of students is 10. Register before the session fills up!!

(Absolute) Beginner Acoustic, Bluegrass & Folk Guitar

 

Monday nights from October 7th thru November 5th Youngsville Library Five classes in total

Time: 7:00 PM to 7:50 PM

Cost: $0

For this class you will need:

       An acoustic guitar in good working order, strung with good strings

o   We do not cover guitar stringing

       A guitar strap and several guitar flat picks

       An electronic guitar tuner which you can purchase in most music stores or online:

       A folder & paper for taking notes

Optional but recommended:

       Guitar case for traveling with your instrument

       A recording device like an iPhone to record parts of the class for practice between classes

What you will learn:

       Holding the guitar

       Right & Left-hand positions

       Strums & right-hand strumming techniques with a flat pick

       Beginning finger-picking

       How to read guitar tablature

       Open string chords & left-hand technique builders:

o   G C D E Em A Am B

o   Power chords

       Five to eight songs:

o   Country

o   Bluegrass

o   Hymns

o   Folk music

Will I have to practice between classes?

       Only if you want to get better

 

 


 

Intermediate Acoustic, Bluegrass & Folk Guitar

You will need:

       An acoustic guitar in good working order strung with good strings

       A guitar strap, guitar flat picks and a guitar capo

       How to hold the guitar (review) - Right & Left-hand position

       Strums & right-hand strumming techniques with a flat pick

       Finger picking variations including Travis Picking

       Bluegrass solo Licks & Riffs

       Open string chords & left-hand technique builders

       How to learn to play from recordings & YouTube videos

o   Barre Chord forms on the 6th and 5th strings: Major, Minor, Dominant 7th and Minor 7th

       Six to ten songs:

o   Country

o   Bluegrass

o   Pop & rock

o   Folk music

Will I have to practice between classes?
